IMPORTANT NOTICE +++++
If you are running Windows with Internet Explorer, and the navigation buttons
don't seem to work correctly, the problem may be that you still have the Microsoft
version of Java currently installed in your system. This version of Java is
a Microsoft design which does not meet Internet Java standards. It is no longer
being offered or supported by Microsoft but it does remain in many Windows operating
systems dating before late 2003. As of that date. Microsoft conceded that the
Sun version of Java is the correct version.
Java is a universal computer language that runs on any kind of computer. The
Java Virtual Machine (VM) or Runtime Engine (JRE) interprets the code to make
the computer respond correctly. Java is used extensively in web page programming.
Most web page creation programs are based correctly on Sun's official Java code.
Microsoft attempted to develop their own version of Java, supposedly to be more
compatible with other Microsoft programs. In a well publicized legal ruling,
Microsoft was ordered to abandon its non-standard Java. But all Windows Operating
Systems sold before that ruling date contained the Microsoft version of Java.
Now, PC users need to eliminate the incorrect Java version from Microsoft and
install the correct version from Sun.
You can get a free copy of the Sun Java program by going to Sun's
Java Web Site and selecting
* The Free Download in the right column,
This will download to your computer, and once downloaded, you will run the program
to install the Sun Java into your Windows OS.
Restart your computer, then start your Internet Explorer program and go to'
Internet Options' under 'Tools'. In the Internet Options window, go to 'Advanced'and
make sure that the Java (Sun) option is checked. Also make sure that all options
under Microsoft VM are NOT checked.
This update should make your Internet Explorer fully compatible with current
Java standards.
You also have the option of replacing
Internet Explorer with o much better browser. If you have a PC, check out FireFox
and/or Opera. If you have a Mac with OSX, you already have Safari. And both
FireFox and Opera for the Mac are other options. FireFox, Opera, and Safari
are significantly more secure than Internet Explorer, as well as being basically
better browsers. All of these non-IE browsers use Sun's legitimate Java version.
Note: The non-Java text links at the bottom of each Math-Power web page fully
mirror the button options which do use Java.
